In an effort to cultivate spiritual maturity, biblical understanding, and connection to the FCC family, we encourage everyone at FCC to take our Core Courses. These courses are offered at least every 2 years (some are offered much more often than that). We use different time frames to offer these classes. Some are offered as a weekly class on Sunday morning, some are offered as a weekend seminar (Fri-Sat), and others are offered on two Sunday afternoons.
God's Plan for Marriage and the Family
The God's Design for Marriage seminar is taught by Rev. Dave and Carol Sue Merkh. Dave is a Seminary professor in Brazil and is on the FCC church staff. They have taught this class to thousands of couples in countries in Europe, South America, North America and Africa. This course provides a theological foundation for marriage that is both biblical and exceptionally practical. Couples of every age, every background, and every marital situation will benefit from this course.
Understanding Spiritual Growth
Thinking Like a Christian
I am extremely excited about this class, and nervous about it as well. I am nervous, because we are raising and addressing some of the most challenging questions facing Christians today. But, I am excited, because I feel we need to take these topics head on, even when we find that we don't agree on our responses to all of them.
This seminar is designed to help us "think like Christians". Our conclusions on some issues, our convictions on some practices, and our way of responding to some questions from people around us, may not all be the same. But, there are principles that are foundationally Christian, that are ancient/timeless and true, that need to be applied to all the above. It is those principles we will be addressing and trying to flesh out thru discussion together.
We will be watching and discussing video clips, both from popular movies, and from talks of leading cultural influencers. We will have focused times to discuss these topics in both smaller groups and the large group sessions. If you have been in conversations with classmates, teachers, co-workers, relatives, and/or friends about gay issues, the exclusivity of Christianity, atheism, science and the Bible, a good God and evil in the world, immigration, gun control, how to know God's will, etc, etc., I invite you to join us for this Friday evening, Saturday morning seminar. We will not give exhaustive answers to these questions, but we hope to provide a biblical framework, centered in Jesus' teaching, to address them.
