It is with a heavy heart that I write this, but I would like to ask you to pray for my amazing sister, Debbie. As many of you are aware, last summer my sister was diagnosed with Renal Cell (Kidney) cancer. She had her kidney removed and they doctors said that there was no evidence that the cancer has spread outside the kidney. We rejoiced that she seemed cancer free.
However, in July my sister had a follow up scan that revealed spots on her lung and adrenal gland. Last week the doctors removed her adrenal gland and a biopsy of the gland revealed metastatic renal cell cancer. Kidney cancer is not usually responsive to chemotherapy or radiation, so treatment options are somewhat limited. There are new treatments that may prolong her life, but we know we are ultimately trusting in God to heal her or at least extend her days.
This has been a difficult few days for my kids and I. We are very close to my sister and are devastated at the thought of losing her right now. I know God will accomplish His plans for her and for us. I still trust in Him and know He is good, but this is another hard road to walk.
The morning after her surgery, while we were waiting for the pathology results, God gave me Joshua 1:9 to share with my sister. At first I thought it was a strange verse to give her, but I realized that we do not need to fear or be discouraged because He was already in this, no matter what the results were. While we were hoping for a clear result, we knew we could rest in the fact that He was already there in stage IV metastatic cancer.
"Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." Joshua 1:9
So although our hearts are heavy, we lift our eyes up to the Lord who made heaven and earth... He is the one who preserves us... (Psalm 121).
Would you please join us in praying for Debbie that God would accomplish His perfect plan for her? We are asking for complete healing knowing that God is ABLE to do beyond what we ask or think. Pray for wisdom for the doctors treating her. Pray that Debbie, her husband Brian, son Matt (wife Chrissy) and granddaughter Madison will be at perfect peace know that God is in control of her life. Pray for myself and my kids that we too would rest in God's sovereignty and goodness. Pray that God would be glorified through it all.
Thank you for standing with us in this personal prayer request. We are so grateful.
